Who can become a LIV-UP member?

LIV-UP members are adults age 55 or over who want to stay in their homes, condos, or apartments as they grow older. Our service area is the upper central area of Pinellas County, loosely bounded on the South by Ulmerton Road and the North by Tampa Road. If there are two or more people in your household, all related to each other, at least one must be 55 or over.

What does it cost to be a LIV-UP member?

*A household is up to three family members, at least one of whom is 55 or over.
A limited number of subsidized membership may be available.


Do I have to be a Lutheran to be a member of LIV-UP?

LIV-UP membership is open to anyone in our service area who is age 55 and over and who needs a support network to stay in their home. We have working relationships with several Lutheran churches ---Grace on N. Highland, Faith in Dunedin, St. Mark, St Matthias, St. Paul’s,  First Lutheran on Nursery Road and Prince of Peace,--- but being Lutheran or church membership or faith is not a requirement of belonging to LIV-UP.

 

What kinds of services do you provide?

Our volunteers provide a helping hands ministry to help you with the occasional things neighbors do for each other. Typical volunteer tasks include things like: organizing paperwork, assistance with moving items in the home, computer and other technology help, light gardening, basic household tasks and repairs, reorganizing a closet or kitchen, reading to a member whose vision has diminished, driving to appointments, assisting with grocery shopping, and much more.

 

Are ride services included in my LIV-UP membership?

Ride services are included for members who need assistance with grocery shopping, medical appointments and other occasional transportation needs. Volunteer carpools are arranged for members who wish to attend LIV-UP social activities.

  

Can you help me with in-home supportive care or health care?

LIV-UP is not a health care provider and our members are not trained or qualified to provide health care services, including giving medications or taking blood pressures. We can help you find resources and specialists who can help.

 

Does membership include pet-sitting or weekly rides to an event?

The two important words to remember about what LIV-UP does are "neighbors" and "occasional."   We can help you with occasional pet-sitting or rides, but we must limit our help to the occasional.

 

Is a LIV-Up membership tax-deductible?

Because services and benefits are received by members, membership is not tax-deductible. Donations are most welcome and are fully tax deductible. LIV-UP is program of Adult Lutherans Organized for Action (ALOA), a 501c3 non-profit organization registered in the state of Florida.


If a member volunteers, does this reduce the membership fee?

As a member, there is no requirement to volunteer, and members receive the same benefits whether they volunteer or not. Members may volunteer, but volunteer hours do not convert to a dollar value. Volunteers may attend free events and volunteer service is tracked and recognized.  

 

Can you help me with professional household services?

These are services that would generally not be provided by neighbors, and they are not provided by LIV-UP volunteers. Tasks like carpet cleaning, household repairs, and maintaining the property generally need a specific professional service provider. 

Can you help me remember to take my pills or do a blood pressure check on me?

LIV-UP volunteers are not qualified to provide medical services.  

 

How much notice do I need to give to request a service?

Please call a week ahead of the date you need the service. It takes time to find the right volunteer for your request.

 

How many services are included in membership?

We don't place a specific limit on the number of requests for services in a month, but an average of one service a week is not excessive.  

 

Can I get a household membership?

A household may include up to three people , at least one of whom is age 55 and older. If you have a specific need, call our member number for more information. 

 

How do I know the volunteers entering my home are trustworthy?

All LIV-UP volunteers must pass a background check and volunteer drivers also must pass a driving background check and provide proof of insurance.Our volunteers receive an orientation.

How to Begin the Membership Process

You can begin the membership process by calling LIV-UP at 727-378-2186. Please leave a message with your name and phone number. We will call you to discuss membership and schedule one of our Ambassadors to visit you in your home.

You can also download our Member Application form and mail it to us.
